Marian Balfe received a First Class Joint Honours Degree in Fine Art and History of Art from the National College of Art and Design, Dublin in 2015. Prior to this she studied Architecture and received a BSc (Hons) in Architectural Science.
Marian’s practice is grounded within specific rural landscapes, playing upon traditional orthogonal methods of representation and their limitations. Working through photography, drawing, making and painting, her work contains a preoccupation with process and materiality.
She recently received the prestigious Thomas Dammann Junior Memorial Travel Prize and was awarded the Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown Emerging Artist Bursary for the creation and development of new work.
